Cancer is a complex and heterogeneous disease involving the interaction between numerous cell types to create diverse tumor microenvironments of nutrients, metabolites, and signalling molecules that influence treatment response to anticancer therapies and facilitate cancer progression and dissemination. However, its uniqueness also offers the potential for the development of novel cancer treatment strategies.
The workshop focuses on new insights and perspectives on the tumor microenvironment in areas ranging from cellular and molecular biology, physiology, immunology, biochemistry, and pharmacology, to drug development and the design of combined modality and molecular targeting approaches. It emphasizes investigations of the characteristics of the tumor microenvironment, its role in cancer malignancy and disease progression, and the potential to utilize such knowledge to develop novel drug targets and therapeutic strategies.
