Xstrahl Marks 30 Years of Advancing Radiation Therapy on World Radiotherapy Awareness Day
Company honors founder Martin Robinson’s legacy as the Robinson family reinvests in Xstrahl’s mission to expand access to safe, effective cancer care.
[SUWANEE, Ga. – September 7, 2026] Xstrahl, a global leader in the design and manufacture of superficial and orthovoltage radiation therapy systems and preclinical radiation research equipment, today marked its 30th anniversary. The company chose to make the announcement on World Radiotherapy Awareness Day (WRAD), the global initiative that unites the radiation oncology community under the theme “One Voice for Radiotherapy” to highlight radiotherapy as a safe, essential, and cost-effective treatment that cures cancer, relieves symptoms, and improves quality of life.
Xstrahl’s 30-year history is part of a much longer story. Therapeutic X-rays have been used to treat disease since 1896, within months of Wilhelm Röntgen’s discovery of X-rays. Kilovoltage X-ray technology laid the foundation for the field of radiation therapy, and while the science has advanced considerably over the past 130 years, that same foundational technology remains among the most widely used tools in cancer treatment today. Xstrahl’s superficial and orthovoltage systems carry that legacy forward, delivering safe, accessible radiation therapy to clinics and research institutions around the world.
Xstrahl traces its roots back three decades to 1996, when the company was founded by Martin Robinson under the name Gulmay Medical, before being renamed Xstrahl in 2010. Since then, the company has grown from a UK-based manufacturer of X-ray systems into a global provider of clinical therapy and radiation research technology, now in use at more than 900 treatment and research facilities in over 60 countries worldwide. Following Martin’s death from cancer, his vision and dedication have remained at the heart of Xstrahl’s mission.
A Founding Commitment Renewed
“For our family, this 30th anniversary is a proud and deeply personal moment. Renewing our backing for Xstrahl reflects our confidence in its people and technology, and our commitment to carrying my father’s vision forward. We are proud to support the team as it builds on everything Xstrahl has achieved and takes the company into its next chapter,” said Charles Robinson, son of Xstrahl founder Martin Robinson, on behalf of the Robinson family.
The company remains committed to advancing radiation therapy for the treatment of skin cancer, benign hyperproliferative conditions, and pain relief, as well as to supporting the preclinical research that drives the next generation of cancer treatment.
“Thirty years ago, we set out to make radiation therapy safer, more accessible, and more effective for patients around the world. Every system we build today still carries that founding purpose,” said Adrian Treverton, CEO of Xstrahl. “On World Radiotherapy Awareness Day, we’re proud to celebrate this milestone alongside the global radiation oncology and radiation research communities.”
