This paper introduced the first small animal radiation research platform, which we here at Xstrahl further developed and commercialized. The authors identified the large, technological gap between laboratory radiation research using cabinet irradiators and clinical practice. They present the proof-of-concept design for the SARRP that enables focused, image guided radiation for small animals. Without the pioneering work of the multidisciplinary team at JHU the SARRP would have never become a reality.
