Most clinicians think of radiotherapy in the context of cancer treatment. Although superficial radiation therapy is often used to treat skin cancer, there are many benign conditions where this treatment modality provides excellent clinical outcomes and a positive patient experience. In this webinar, Dr. Richard Shaffer, clinical oncologist with Genesis Care, shares his experience using radiotherapy as a non-invasive alternative to other treatments for patients who suffer from Dupuytrens disease and Ledderhose disease. Dr. Shaffer will highlight a few recent cases showing why he chose radiotherapy and the clinical outcomes his patients experienced.
On the Other Side of the Machine
I have spent more than twenty years in radiation therapy, building systems, advising clinicians, and working to bring this technology to more patients. Last year, I became one of those patients myself. Diagnosed with Dupuytren’s contracture, I went through two rounds of low-dose radiation treatment at the same kind of facility I have spent my career supplying. What followed was one of the most clarifying professional experiences of my life, and a reminder that the gap between understanding a treatment and actually receiving one is wider than most people inside this industry ever appreciate.
