Radiation therapy is a great way to diversify your treatment armamentarium in your dermatology clinic. It can be an effective treatment alternative for patients on blood thinners, who decline surgery or in cases when surgery would compromise function or appearance.
On the Other Side of the Machine
I have spent more than twenty years in radiation therapy, building systems, advising clinicians, and working to bring this technology to more patients. Last year, I became one of those patients myself. Diagnosed with Dupuytren’s contracture, I went through two rounds of low-dose radiation treatment at the same kind of facility I have spent my career supplying. What followed was one of the most clarifying professional experiences of my life, and a reminder that the gap between understanding a treatment and actually receiving one is wider than most people inside this industry ever appreciate.
