Radiation therapy can be a great option for treating non-melanoma skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Radiation therapy is an alternative treatment option for those who are not good candidates for surgery, or who want to avoid pain and scarring during treatment.
On the Other Side of the Machine
I have spent more than twenty years in radiation therapy, building systems, advising clinicians, and working to bring this technology to more patients. Last year, I became one of those patients myself. Diagnosed with Dupuytren’s contracture, I went through two rounds of low-dose radiation treatment at the same kind of facility I have spent my career supplying. What followed was one of the most clarifying professional experiences of my life, and a reminder that the gap between understanding a treatment and actually receiving one is wider than most people inside this industry ever appreciate.
