Superficial Radiation Therapy (SRT) in Small & Exotic Animal Oncology, Dr. Rodney Ayl

March 28, 2022

For about 60 years, specialty veterinary practices around the world have been using radiation as an important modality to treat cancer and reduce inflammation in animals. Low energy, X-ray radiotherapy is an important and cost-effective treatment for skin cancer, dermatological disorders, certain types of benign diseases, and some palliative care in small and exotic companion animals.

Join Xstrahl and American, double-Board certified oncology specialist, Dr. Rodney Ayl from Paragon Veterinary Referrals in Wakefield, as he discusses the objectives of the SRT program and making radiation therapy easily accessible, especially for palliative treatment of superficial lesions. Dr. Ayl shares case examples with images and a list of conditions he has treated with SRT and discusses the process including dose and time. The webinar concludes with a Q&A session including questions on how well animals tolerate SRT treatment, the use of a superficial system vs a higher voltage system, how to define margins, treating birds and reptiles with radiotherapy, and managing referrals and remote consults with owners and setting up a treatment plan.
