Advancing radiation is only possible thanks to the large network of skilled, dedicate people working to make it happen. While so much credit appropriately goes to the researchers and clinicians at the forefront, there are key people behind the scenes paving the way. One of those people is Amanda Wilkerson, Financial Controller for our US division, who keeps things running smoothly for our business operations.
What do you do at Xstrahl?
I am the Financial Controller for the US division of Xstrahl. I am a part of the finance team, and I work closely with our colleagues based in the UK. My job is to execute all of the daily and monthly tasks of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and HR, expenses, general ledger, stock control and tax compliance.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is that I get to work with great people that are all dedicated to the same mission: to help advance the treatment of cancer and other significant health issues. I have lost very close family members to cancer, and it means a lot to be a part of a company that helps to provide radiation therapy and research systems to treatment and research facilities across the world. I have learned quite a lot about treatment methods since I first started working with Xstrahl, and the best thing I have learned is that there is hope for others who have been and will be affected by cancer.
What’s the weirdest job you ever had before working here?
The most interesting job I have ever had was working at a produce stand in the summer when I was 16. I would get up very early to be in Athens, GA by 7 a.m. It was very hot, but I learned how to make boiled peanuts, and I even got to help out at a county fair. I learned produce lingo I’d never heard before, such as “Beef Steak Tomatoes” and “Silver Queen Corn.”
What can you be found doing outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters and reading mystery and thriller novels. I am also working toward my second degree, which I will be finishing soon.
