The governor of the Astrakhan region Alexander Zhilkin visited the oncology dispensary, where the newest equipment appeared, which allows treating a disease widespread in the hot Astrakhan climate – skin cancer.
Skin cancer ranks first among all malignant neoplasms in the Astrakhan region – about 500 people with this disease are treated each year in the oncology dispensary. This is a third of all patients with oncopathology treated in the region. “Last year, we registered 630 people with skin diseases,” Irina Grishnyachaya, the head of the radiological department of the dispensary , told the governor .
But now it will be easier to fight this illness – a modern short-focus X-ray therapy device Xstrahl 150 (made in England) appeared in the oncologic dispensary. Of all the existing methods of treating skin cancer, short-focus X-ray therapy gives the best results. This is an alternative to the surgical removal of damaged skin. The percentage of recovery is very high, in most cases – without recurrence.
“The previous apparatus, which we had, for more than 20 years, he worked in manual mode,” explained Irina Grishnyachaya. – Xstrahl 150 is fully automated. For irradiation, filters of different diameters are available. There is a dual time control. All these patients are laid on the monitor. Also, patients are under constant video surveillance. ” One session lasts a little over two minutes. “The result in the early detection of the disease is a complete cure,” said the chief doctor of the oncology center, Sergei Dzhuvalyakov. “Reception of patients on the new device has already begun.”
Governor Alexander Zhilkin stressed the need to increase the number of detected oncological diseases at an early stage – and at the primary level.
