Xstrahl SARRP User Spring Symposium brings together thought leaders from around the globe

May 11, 2017

Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th of April saw Xstrahl host the  SARRP User Spring Symposium at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA.

The SARRP User Spring Symposium event gathers together thought leaders, scholars and operators of Xstrahl Small Animal Radiation Research (SARRP) systems from all over the world. The event focused on the sharing of research findings, future experimental plans, and system ownership experience with the aim of addressing the latest issues in radiation therapy and radiation research.

This years event was attended by 87 participants from 5 different countries, with backing by the University of Pennsylvania’s Radiation Oncology Department. The agenda of the two-day meeting featured 23 scientific investigators presenting and discussing SARRP applications for pre-clinical research purposes important to the community such as:

  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Murine Melanoma Brain Metastases Model using MRI Targeting and SARRP Delivery
  • Advanced Preclinical Modelling of Craniospinal Irradiation for the Study of Paediatric Brain Tumors
  • Using the SARRP to Investigate Combination Therapies to Generate New Antitumor Immune Responses in Mice
  • Small Animal Models of Local Irradiation of Liver and Heart

The participants had great networking opportunities at the event. Some of which included a speed networking session, tour of the new Proton SARRP facility at University of Pennsylvania, and private dinner where Dr. John Wong gave a talk on the development and history of SARRP.

The Xstrahl SARRP symposium received a great deal of positive feedback both from the Xstrahl management team and meeting attendees. Xstrahl’s Chief Operating Officer, Adrian Treverton commented that, “It is gratifying to see the amazing research being done by our incredible customers. Our invited speakers, Dr. Costas Koumenis and Dr. Chandan Guha really showed how Xstrahl technology can transform research studies. The two days were filled with excellent science with some groundbreaking research being enabled by the SARRP.  The event allowed our customers to network and start new collaborations as well as hear about the new innovations coming from Xstrahl.

Our company purpose is help our eradicate cancer, seeing the innovative ways our equipment is being used reminds all of us at Xstrahl why we love our jobs. I would like to thank the University of Pennsylvania for hosting the event, the facilities were ideal.  We look forward to announcing the dates for the 2018 symposium.”
